The commitment of Derek Willis to the Purdue University basketball team appeared to be on shaky ground Thursday when the 6-9 standout from Kentucky posted on his Facebook page that he was going to reopen his recruitment.
His father, Del Willis, attempted to squash those rumors, telling The Indianapolis Star that day that it was a “misunderstanding” and that the situation would be resolved by Sunday.
It was resolved — and Willis is no longer committed to Purdue. Del Willis confirmed the news to the Louisville (Ky.) Courier-Journal.
“Most of the time you don’t marry the first girl you date,” Del Willis said. “He didn’t have anything to compare it to.”
Derek Willis, who averaged 13.5 points and 9.5 rebounds at Bullitt East as a sophomore, committed to Purdue less than four months ago. Since then, his stock has risen dramatically; he is ranked No. 19 nationally in the 2013 class by ESPN.com.
Louisville and Kentucky are expected to make a major push for Willis.
Purdue has three commitments in the 2013 class: Bryson Scott, a 6-1 point guard from Fort Wayne; Basil Smotherman, a 6-6 small forward from Lawrence North; and Kendall Stephens, a 6-3 shooting guard from St. Charles, Ill.
Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy’s Janrell Stokes was among the most physical prospects of the summer, moving opponents at will on the block.

Prague, Czech Republic –
After half day of sightseeing, the Purdue women’s basketball team loaded the bus for a 30-minute drive to its contest against Slovanka Praha, which the Boilermakers won 89-51.
Purdue’s opponent, Slovanka, is a professional Euroleague team from Prague and Sunday’s game was played using FIBA rules which differ slightly from the college game. The major differences are that the game is four 10-minute quarters instead of two 20-minute halves, the shot clock is 24 seconds instead of 30 and there is an eight-second backcourt rule.
The Boilermakers’ starting line up included KK Houser, who was playing in her first contest since tearing her ACL in the first regular-season game last year. Also starting for Purdue was sophomore Courtney Moses, junior Chantel Poston, seniors Antionette Howard and Drey Mingo. The Boilermakers got off to a sluggish start, beleaguered by turnovers and foul trouble in the first half. Purdue held just a 32-26 edge at halftime, despite 10 points each by Houser and Mingo.
In the second half, the Boilermakers tightened up their defense and took care of the basketball, creating greater offensive efficiency that resulted in 57 second-half points. All 12 Boilermakers played and 10 scored. Mingo led all scorers with a game-high 20 points and she also pulled down nine rebounds. Houser finished with 12 points, Brittany Rayburn contributed 14, Howard pitched in 11 and Moses scored 10 points to give Purdue five players with double-figure scoring.

Junior Sam Ostarello recorded a game-high 12 rebounds to help Purdue to a 48-28 advantage on the backboard.
Freshman Liza Clemons pulled down six rebounds to go with her three points. Classmate Torrie Thornton did not score but contributed four rebounds, two assists, a steal and a blocked shot.
Houser recorded a team-high five assists to go along with three steals, while Dee Dee Williams had a game-high five steals. Rayburn contributed four steals and Mingo totaled three takeaways.
Petra Pospisilova was the only player for Slovanka to reach double-figures with 17 points. She also grabbed four rebounds.
A tour of the Moser Glass Factory is on the Boilermakers’ agenda for Monday, followed by a game against Karlove Vary at 5:30 p.m.

The Purdue Boilermakers Mens Basketball team goes far back in history. The team has been in existence for more than one hundred years. The team first started play in 1896, where they would actually play against YMCA teams sometimes.
In the early years the Purdue team had a few memorable seasons. One of them occurred in 1902 and 1903. In this season the team was led by C.I. Freeman. Freeman was coaching the team for his first season and turned the program around to new levels. The team had never had an undefeated season in their history to that point, but Freeman changed all of that. The Boilermakers went 8-0 that season. That year brought popularity and recognition to the sport and they were able to make basketball more of a priority in the University from that time on.
That undefeated season really made all the difference for the Boilermakers. After the school made basketball one of its major sports the team was invited to play in the Big Ten Conference 3 years later.
The Big Ten brought opportunities for the team to compete for Conference Championships. Success did not come immediately for the Boilermakers, but they did find it in time. The first Conference Championship for regular season play happened in 1911. The team has gone on to become the Conference Regular Season Champions 22 times in their history. The 1911 championship was the first of back-to-back championships for the team.
In the 1920s and 1930s the team found a lot of success in their conference. In the 1920s the team won the Conference Championship four different times. They would be outdone in the 1930s though, as they went on to win the Big Ten Conference Championship 6 times. This was the best decade of success for the team in the history of their play. The crowning event of the decade was their National Championship in 1932. This championship happened before the beginning of NCAA Tournament play, but they were champions for the first time in school history. To this date the Boilermakers have not been able to achieve National Championship status again to repeat the success of 1932.
Things started to slow down for the Boilermakers after the 1930s. The team won the Conference championship in 1940, but they had a drought of nearly 30 years before finding themselves as champions again. That stretch was the most disappointing stretch of play in the history of the team. They did have other stretches without much success, but that stretch was the longest lasting by far.
The team ended the drought in a big way. In 1969 the team qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever. The team managed to make an impact right away. They shot through the tournament winning game after game until they found themselves in the final game of the tournament. The team took on John Wooden and the UCLA Bruins. The Bruins were too much and won the game, but that was the only time in Purdue history that they have managed to advance to the finals of the NCAA Tournament.
The team has since had ups and downs, but the Boilermakers have established a history of winning in the past two decades. The team is a perennial threat to make the NCAA Tournament and has had teams that were particularly strong recently. The team won its first Conference Tournament in 2009.

Talk about it in Knucklehead Central
Boilermaker 2013 recruit Derek Willis’ commitment to Purdue might be best described as being as tenuous as can be.
His high school coach, Troy Barr, said Thursday that Willis indicated to him that he’s withdrawing the commitment he made to Purdue in the spring.
“It’s something he kind of hit me with today,” Barr said, “but it’s apparently been on his mind for some time from what he told me.”
Willis’ father, Del, however, painted the picture of a fluid situation.
“He’s still committed,” Del Willis said. “Nothing’s changed as of yet. He’s had a little bit of second thoughts, but nothing’s changed and I don’t know if it will. We’re going to sit down here the next couple days and really talk this out, the pros and cons of everything.
“I don’t know what’s going on in his head exactly, but that’s what we’re going to get to. I do know there’s a lot of pressure on him.”
A decision whether to open up or not for absolute certain will be made by Sunday, Del Willis said.
The multi-skilled 6-foot–9 forward from Bullitt East High School in Kentucky committed to Purdue immediately after being offered in the spring, then saw his stock sky-rocket weeks later on the AAU circuit to where he’s considered a top 30-40 prospect nationally in the 2013 class.
“I think the really important thing in this whole deal,” Barr said, “is the fact that Derek just turned 16 years old. He’s a really young kid and age-wise he should only now be going into his sophomore year of high school.
“If any of us can be remember back to when we were 16 years old, we didn’t know what we wanted 30 seconds from now, much less three years from now.”
Del Willis talked of the difficulty his son’s faced.
“People look at this for their own benefit,” he said, “but they don’t realize how much pressure this kid’s under.
“It’s not so much other schools (applying pressure), but other people. Anywhere he goes … sometimes there’s some pretty negative stuff, like, ‘You’re turning your back on your own city,’ even though we don’t live in Louisville. We live outside Louisville. … It’s silly stuff and a 16-year-old kid shouldn’t have to listen to any of that crap.”
Barr said he talked with Purdue coach Matt Painter.
“It’s like I said to Coach Painter, ‘It’s got to be very difficult dealing with young kids like that,’” Barr said. “They change their mind so often.”
Del Willis said he talked with Painter “for a half an hour” and will call him back Sunday.
Barr said that since Willis committed, other schools have obviously taken notice of the blue-chip forward.
“I can’t say I’ve been contacted that much,” Barr said. “But there’s been a lot of ‘he said, she said,’ stuff in terms of, ‘This coach said this and this coach said this, that they wished they’d had a chance to recruit him.’ It’s been a lot of second-hand stuff.
“It was nothing direct, but a lot of in-direct stuff. With a 16-year-old kid, it takes a toll on them, I think, whether it’s totally true or not.”
Barr suggested Willis, “just wants to visit other schools and see what’s out there.”
“I think Purdue’s still in the mix if they want him,” Barr said. “I don’t know, though. I honestly haven’t gotten to talk to Coach (Matt) Painter and Coach (Jack) Owens enough to figure out if they still do.
“I really hope they do. They’re an extremely classy bunch of guys and if I had a son good enough to play for them, I’d sure want him playing at Purdue.
“I told Derek I’d do everything I could to keep (Purdue) recruiting him and he said that’s what he wanted.”
Willis, Barr said, specifically indicated interest only in visiting Louisville and Kentucky.
“He has nothing planned as of now,” Barr said, “but when I asked him who he was wanting to visit he said UK and U of L.”
Del Willis reiterated many of the positives he’s talked about with Purdue ever since the commitment was made in the first place.
“We have such a comfort zone with Coach Painter and Coach Owens,” Del Willis said, “and it’s like I told them, ‘I don’t know if I can trust a Coach (Rick) Pitino or Coach (John) Calipari. Their agenda is more for their benefit than the kid’s. They’re more worried about themselves.”

Owens Named Purdue’s Associate Head Coach August 1, 2011 WEST LAFAYETTE - Purdue head men’s basketball coach Matt Painter announced on Monday that assistant coach Jack Owens has been promoted to the level of associate head coach. “Jack has been a vital part of our success over the last few years, and he has earned the title of associate head coach,” Painter said. “He works hard, brings great energy to the office every day and has a great rapport with our players.” As an assistant to Painter over the last three seasons, Owens has helped lead the Boilermakers to an 82-24 (.774) record and three NCAA Tournament berths, including a pair of Sweet 16 trips. Owens saw E’Twaun Moore, one of his top protégés during his tenure in West Lafayette, establish himself as one of three players in Big Ten history to compile 2,000 points, 500 rebounds and 400 assists. In June, Moore was chosen in the second round of the NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics. “I’m extremely thankful for this opportunity to grow professionally,” Owens said. “My time spent at Purdue has been great so far, and I have no doubt that we’ll be able to keep moving forward with the success we’ve had over the last few years.” The Indianapolis native began his coaching career as an assistant at Howard Community College during the 2000-01 season, serving as the team’s interim head coach for a portion of the campaign. He spent the 2001-02 season at Barton County Community College and the 2002-03 campaign at his alma mater, Eastern Illinois, as an assistant coach before joining Painter at Southern Illinois in 2003. Owens helped Painter lead SIU to the 2004 NCAA Tournament, and aided Chris Lowery in taking the Salukis to the Big Dance three more times after Painter departed for Purdue. Combining Owens’ time at Southern Illinois and Purdue, he has coached in the postseason in eight-consecutive seasons, reaching the NCAA Tournament on seven of those occasions. After two seasons at Howard Community College, Owens played two years at Eastern Illinois, one of which for a staff that featured Painter as an assistant coach. As a senior in 1998-99, Owens averaged 11.7 points and 6.5 assists per game to earn honorable mention All-OVC honors. Purdue will take the floor against Northern State on Nov. 1 in the first of its two exhibition games. The Boilermakers will open regular-season play against Northern Illinois on Nov. 11 as part of Mackey Celebration Weekend. - P -

The East Coast All-Stars will play an exhibition against Vlimsi Spordikeskuss on Wednesday before opening competition against Sweden on Friday. The team will take on Georgia on Saturday and Estonia on Sunday, then head back to the U.S. on Monday. Johnson redshirted the 2010-11 season, but per NCAA rules, was allowed to compete in the Boilermakers’ two exhibition games. The Chicago native averaged 5.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game in those contests. Purdue rising senior guard Lewis Jackson played with the East Coast All-Stars in Geneva and Paris in the summer of 2010, averaging 9.5 points, 4.5 assists and 3.3 steals per game during the tour. Talk about it in Knucklehead Central
Anthony Brown didn’t necessarily expect his recruitment to end Friday.
But when Purdue offered the 5-foot-11, 185-pound Tampa Hillsborough cornerback a scholarship during a visit to campus, it did.
“I just liked what I saw, the environment and the coaches,” Brown said, “and I can see myself there for the next four or five years.”
Brown was also offered scholarships by Indiana, Ball State, Iowa State, UAB, Western Michigan, Washington State and Ohio. West Virginia and South Florida were also interested.
Purdue won out as soon as the offer was made, though.
“They treat you like family and I like the school,” Brown said. “The program is up-and-coming and looking to have a big year. And they want you to get your degree and I like that.
“They said I have the talent to come in and help them right away, contribute and help them get to a bowl game. They like my size and my speed and my tape, they said they loved it.”
Brown is Purdue’s 11th new commitment for the 2012 class, its third from Florida.
Recruited by assistant coach Shawn Clark, Brown said he’ll officially visit for the Oct. 1 Notre Dame game.

Something funny is I bought 2K7 about a month ago for pretty cheap from gamestop, hoping 2K Share was on it so I could play with the new rosters. I had no knowledge that it didnt have it. My controller got quite a few “scratches” after I found that out.
@daawun Again I won’t tolerate EA bashing on my videos. You want to hate EA that’s fine, don’t post it here, because seems that no one here reads or knows what they are talking about. EA had nothing and I mean absolutely nothing too do with this series being canceled. 2k did that on their own! The cost of the NCAA License went up, College Hoops games didn’t make that much money, 2k and Take-Two saw it as a lost and decided not to pay for the license and canceled the game on their own! The End!
@lashleyunit1 2k8 has a large database of names already programmed into it. You can upgrade rosters forever
When E’twaun moore hit that 3 did the PA announcer really say E’Twaun?
@antoine40219 Just don’t have the time to do a set this year. But if I change my mind I’ll let you know.
Hey if you did these rosters mad props to you foreal! Are you gonna do a College Hoops 2k11 roster? If not I will pay u to do em…LOL I love this game. Yes NCAA Basketball 2010 is tight but this is the best basketball game I have ever played…the online is good and it has alot of classic teams. Big ups to u for the rosters!
Hey, here’s an avid Purdue fan! (me) I just ordered my copy over Amazon along with a golfing game…I have a feeling the golf game will get here first. (it’s shipping from Illinois and I live in Indiana)
@marshan3q
Without a doubt, NCAA BB 10 is much better, gameplay, presentation, graphics, etc.
2k8′s Legacy mode is just better.
@marshan3q
I mean to say I uploaded my beta file to 2kshare a while back, it’s under my gamertag….
@MRSHADOWSXXX33 so which do you like better NCAA Basketball 10, or College Hoops 2K8
@MRSHADOWSXXX33 so do you need to do it yourself, or can you download rosters, cause i might buy this over NCAA Basketball 10. Which is better?
Yuh Get Tha Right Rateings 4 tha Players or nott??
What is the 2k8/2k10 project?
how do you change the jerseys at the beginning??
damn thx for the response and GREAT JOB i’m picking up my copy today how do i get your rosters? plus i was just wondering cause i saw your vid on op sports on how you do the ratings, incredible awesome job. but how do you decide ratings like jumping and dunking and layup where there isnt a stat for it?
nope they won’t go online, 2k made sure of that….they blocked custom rosters.
using YOUR rosters can you play other people online in like a un ranked match or something? or do they have default rosters 4 that?
@MRSHADOWSXXX33
alright that’s cool i hate them both lol but it’s good you have an SEC game you will do! can’t wait i love these videos though!!!
is this for the 360? if it is what is your gamertag?
GO ‘DORES
@MemorialMagic247
Already doing a Tennessee vs UK video…coming Wednesday!
@BROB1141
Take Two decided not to renew the college license, because it wasn’t a profitable game series.
And no you can’t draft to 2k10, only NBA 2k8.
ok so i want to know does any1 have an idea why 2k sports stopped making college hoops…?
and if i were to buy college hoops 2k8, would i still be able to draft the players onto nba 2k 10…..???????
dude i love this…i say you should do a Vanderbilt Tennessee game…i don’t know if you know but on the Xbox360 game a buddy of mine did the same thing and i downloaded it and for the most part he did a really good job
good luck dude on your project
I’m still working on them…it’s a full project by me..
Do you have all the updated rosters for this game? Do you know where I can get them?
His rating is a 81!
